Welcome to
For Reels
, a monthly list of things we’re going to watch in the next month or else. When putting together these lists, we consider
what is coming to a streaming service(s) this month,
what are films we’ve been meaning to get around to,
what writing we’re working on that requires we (re)watch a film, and
what we’re being recommended to watch.
The fun part is sharing the list with you and seeing what you’re all watching, too. Feel free to comment and let us know!

Dick Tracy (1990)
Here are some films I’m planning on rewatching in June, either because they’re newly available on a streaming service, or it’s just been a while and I’m curious to see how they hold up.

Layer Cake (2004)
Dark City (1998)
Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
Nocturnal Animals (2016)

Here are just a shit ton of movies I want to watch in June. Some of them are either coming to or leaving streaming services soon, others have been on my various queues for a while. I also added a bunch of movies that are available on HBO Max, which just launched on Wednesday and might already have the best film selection of any major streaming service.

City of the Living Dead (1979)
Monstrum (2018)
Tenebrae (1981)

Humpday
(2009)
I should preface this by saying that I’ve been extremely busy and stressed out lately. I’m in the middle of trying to buy a house to move my family into, and I’m still working a full-time job. So…I didn’t watch that many from my previous list and, honestly, might do a shitty job with this list, too.
I think I’m going to try to rewatch some stuff that made me feel good when I was younger.
Here are all the Lynn Shelton films I want to watch. Some are for the first time, some are ones I haven’t seen since they were in theaters. Hoping to speak with some of her collaborators for future pieces.
Humpday (2009)
Your Sister’s Sister (2011)
Touchy Feely (2013)
Laggies (2014)
Outside In (2017)
Sword of Trust (2019)
Here are all the films associated with “Mumblecore” I want to watch for a retrospective essay I hope to write one day. There are a ton of these, but I’m going to start with the ones I watched when I was in college and were my introduction to the “movement.” These are kind of comfort food movies.
The Puffy Chair (2005)
Mutual Appreciation (2005)
Dance Party USA (2006)
Hannah Takes the Stairs (2007)
Quiet City (2007)
Luke and Brie Are on a First Date (2008)
Alexander the Last (2009)
Tiny Furniture (2010)
My hold over from last month. I did a pretty shitty job watching the films on my May list. I’m not going to feel too bad about it, but I still feel guilty about not having seen this film because I know it’s going to be awesome.
Lady Bird (2017)
I recently watched both the raid movies! pretty great action. 9/10 action. totally worth it. you've got a lot of good movies on your lists, both ones I've seen and ones I havent. I watched inherent vice (for my second time) last month and its so fun so dont give up on it. also la dulce vida (felini) and it was a pretty fun romp.
hopefully you like liquid sky if you get around to it. i loved it when i saw it (but the soundtrack kinda not so much). also tiny furniture was my first encounder with lena dunham and i really liked it. its amazing to have a criterion movie that young. and yeah lady bird is great, but i havent seen it since theater!
i will prob try and watch red shoes, maybe dunkirk, and something from nics list but they are mostly not ones i know! also, dont forget lu over the wall unless you didnt like it haha then forget it
