Gimme Evil Sexy Hamlet

Listen, I love movies. I love watching them, I love thinking about them, I love the cerebral and emotional journeys they take me on.

“Give me evil, sexy Hamlet,” director Sam Wanamaker tells Rick Dalton in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. That phrase has stuck with me like some cosmic haiku describing the indescribable — An “I want my MTV!”-style slogan for the hopeless cinema sickos of the 21st century. A call for that thing that makes a movie pop, stick with you, open up new caverns of thought, feeling, empathy, pleasure, awareness. Gimme that singular indescribable mind-and-heart-expanding techno-trip that is cinema! Gimme evil sexy hamlet!!
